Wanted to let the list know that there will be an in-migration of jobs
from the suburbs to Minneapolis....well, ok THREE jobs, but it's still
better than nothing and far better than the reverse!
Mpls-based Southwest Journal, Inc. - which published the Southwest
Journal and Skyway News covering 27 Minneapolis neighborhoods - has
acquired Minnesota Parent, a monthly magazine covering family issues.
Three current employees, including editor Sharon Secor, have joined us
at our 1115 Hennepin Ave. S. headquarters. Our first issue will be in
April.
This is an exciting deal for us not only because it's cool to acquire
something, but because we hope to do with Minnesota Parent what we do
best - make it local. The magazine, which was founded locally by the
folks who started City Pages, was sold to a national company that
recently announced they would shut it down. We rescued it because we
think it can be made relevant with local ownership, editors, reporters,
photographers, etc.
I think we've breathed new life into Skyway News so it will be fun to
see if we can do it again.
If any of you out there have story idea for the magazine, please let us
know (for now, you can email me directly by hitting "reply" and I'll
get the idea to Sharon). While Minneapolis is not Minnesota Parent's
sole focus, it is a big part of our audience and things happening here
are important to the whole area. At the very least, we won't be a
"metro-area" magazine that forgets about the city.
