How is it that the reporter and the editors at the STAR TRIBUNE could
fail to include the names of all the task force members? I usually
defend the press since I think they do an excellent job for the most
part but this was a gross oversight at the least or very sloppy
reporting at worst.
One theory offered by a long time acquaintance at City Hall is that
"because this is so emotional and controversial, it was decided not to
publicize the names of other members to protect their privacy so they
can deliberate without being inundated with e-mail and phone calls"!
This cannot be true, can it?

Subject: [Mpls] Council delays smoking ban decision
Five-week postponement, plus a new task force.
>From the Strib:
Mayor R.T. Rybak, whose position had been less than clear, said the
action
wasn't a cynical move to delay a ban. "I fully intend to sign a smoking
ban
that is well-crafted," Rybak said.
And Council Member Scott Benson, who is viewed as the crucial seventh
vote
for passage, said: "The issue is not whether we are going to adopt a
resolution. We are. The issue is not whether we are going to have a long
delay. We are not."
