Supportive housing of the kind proposed and/or being implemented by
Collaborative Village Initiative or Lydia House are good models to help
with these issues.
Wizard Marks:
I have to disagree with Mr. Luce about Collaborative Village under the
aegis that the ends do not justify the means. Collaborative Village was
plunked into Phillips against ordinance, against neighborhood. It is one
of the more outstanding examples of poverty pimping in this area.
My response:
I'll be the first to acknowledge the heated and profound disagreement of
people with the location of CVI and Lydia House, and those issues have
been debated here ad nauseum at times. I'm hoping to avoid rehashing
that issue.
My overall point was the model of supportive housing, not the locale,
and I'm not sure most folks disagree with the overall model provided by
CVI: four anchor families in market rate units who are involved in
various ways in helping 16 other families in the remaining units, plus
supportive services.
I guess now we'll have to see if CVI works where it is located or if,
according to its opponents, it is a colossal failure waiting to happen.
