[Mpls] Jefferson school re: closing plan

I understand there's a bit of confusion stemming from the most recent
issue of the Journal.

At the time we went to press, the district planned to finalize a
proposal to take to public meetings by Nov. 3. As it turned out, they
finalized that proposal Oct. 26.

Jefferson School in SW Mpls is slated to have its programs merged into
Whittier. I've heard (second-hand) that some parents think, based on
our most recent issue, that the School Board is having a secret Nov. 3
vote that is not on the district's Web site or schedule. The truth is,
since the board finalized the proposal sooner than their Nov. 3
deadline, there's no Nov. 3 meeting.

From here, the proposal will proceed as planned: to the community for
informal (but very public) discussions next week and formal public
hearings at North High Nov. 17 & at Washburn High Nov. 18.

Unfortunately, because we only publish every two weeks, things can
change and it isn't necessarily anyone's fault. But I hope this clears
up any unfortunate distress caused by events.
