----------
The SSCA was founded in September, 2003. With help from the Stevens
Community Organization and JAS Apartments, a group of local artists
redeveloped a vacant office space, and converted it into a community arts
center. 11 artists currently rent studios within the building.
Since opening to the public in November of 2003, the SSCA has organized
eight unique art exhibitions (including 'The Next American City' and 'Guard
Art: Art by Museum Security Guards'), hosted the Twin Cities Zine Fest, and
provides affordable work studios and community space. SSCA also partners
with Superclown, Inc., to offer a free after-school arts mentoring class
for neighborhood youth (The Youth Arts Studio).
Regular SSCA Gallery Hours are Tuesdays from 6-9 PM, Thursdays from 6-9 PM,
Fridays from 6-9 PM, Saturdays from 3-7 PM, and Sundays from 1-5 PM.
