Here's the link to today's Basim Sabri update in the Star Tribune:

I have to say I did laugh out loud when I read that Basim was "scared" of Brian Herron. Is this a bizzaro reality??
Here's the bribery defense:
"Brian Herron had been extorting from immigrant businesses for years," he said. "Brian Herron was a powerful person in his ward. He could break a business."

Now, this sounds more like the Sabri that so many people have grown to hate during his 20+ years of taking advantage of the underclass in Minneapolis:
Ward said Sabri offered Herron $5,000 to gain council support for a hotel project in Herron's ward, and $10,000 to threaten a Taco Bell that it would be taken over by the city through eminent domain if it didn't cooperate with Sabri's plan for a hotel on the site. Sabri also offered Herron a 10 percent kickback of any government grants he could secure for the project, Ward said.

Perhaps Wizard Marks (who was in cahoots with both of these controversial characters at that time) can offer her perspective?
Oh, here is the link to yesterday's Sabri update if you don't pay for the Strib:

(strib) The long-awaited bribery trial of enigmatic Lake Street developer Basim Sabri begins today with all of the elements in place for drama.
There likely will be testimony by disgraced former Minneapolis City Council Member Brian Herron. There will be profanity-laced FBI surveillance tapes of the council member allegedly taking money from Sabri.
