Dorie writes...the post on Art was written over a week ago and just entered
this AM so this
might be my third post but really the second by me!

Why teach Art? Because some people want to be artists and not science/ math
geniuses. What seems a hundred years ago...I won a national science
contest..my project was feeding different vitamins to tomato plants and
measuring their growth pattern per vitamin which was interesting since
vitamins are water/fat soluble with cloting variables; which would affect a
plant different than in a person's body.. right? Well, I am not going to
tell you... I loved science but was also guided towards the arts because I
happened to be good in the field. After graduating, I went to MCAD. Been a
self supporting artist all my life, have made a very good living without
playing in a band, my friends have all had great careers in the arts and
this is why you teach art in schools. We are talking about choices in
education and life style....I would not ask you to give up your math
class...don't ask me to give up my art class. You TEACH art because art is a
career and it is as important as any other subject. Let us not be so dense
to say art is coming before reading, writing and arithmetic...this is
elementary.. except to our current leadership.

596 animal pictures painted on the walls of Lascaux caves in France have
lasted for 15,000 years since the last Ice Age...That's ART and education.
