WM: I think that iron pipe about 3 ft. back from the sidewalk and
barberry bushes, trimmed to be thick at base and upward, were better
than a front fence. They're very nasty to go through, having a thorn
that drops a little histamine (sp?) into the body that itches like the
very devil for quite a while. They can be kept below 4 ft. and still do
the job. Also, they're beautiful, particularly in the fall. One called
"rosy glow" is pink and green throughout the season.
In the back yard, the alley fence should be solid, but the side fences
should be see through so you and your neighbors can help each other.
Motion detector lights are really a good idea too.
