New website seeks input from Minneapolis residents and
stakeholders

	MINNEAPOLIS, October 13, 2004 =96 Three City Council
member, =
Council=20
Members Dan Niziolek (W-10), Scott Benson (W-11) and
Don Samuels (W-3),=20=

formally launched a short initiative to =93jump
start=94 the =
conversation=20
about how Minneapolis engages its residents in the
policy process at=20
City Hall.

Lead sponsor Council Member Dan Niziolek said, =93The
city provides many=20=

opportunities for citizen engagement =96 it is time to
look at whether=20=

together they provide the most accessible and
accountable option for=20
the City of Minneapolis.=94 Council Member Benson
adds =93this is an=20
effort to provide a starting place for the Council to
have an important=20=

policy conversation about how we provide meaningful
involvement for=20
residents in the process and policy of their city.=94

The project, facilitated by local consulting firm
CommunityLeader,=20
launched a website (www.MplsCommunityEngagement.com)
to disseminate=20
information about the project and to solicit input
from local=20
stakeholders.

********************************
I'm curious how much the city is spending on this
project?

I'm also wondering why this was outsourced?
Consulting fees generally are higher than city
employees get paid.

I have the same objections to Smith Parker doing the
citizen input gathering on the 35w Excess Project.

Yup, Joe Barisonzi and his consulting business,
Community Leader got a good Return on Investment (ROI)
for his work with the Samuels campaign. Not quite as
good as lawyer/lobbyist Brian Rice for his
contributions to the Park Board.....
