The Minneapolis Issues Forum is about citizen engagement and
participation. In the past, we've done online candidate
conversations and debates. Applying this "event" model to focused
citizen-to-citizen online events is an exciting opportunity. Unlike
most forms of traditional community participation, this forum allows
us to participate on our own time from anywhere.

Starting this week, the E-Democracy.Org through the Minneapolis
Issues Forum will be co-hosting a two week conversation about the
challenge and opportunity for community engagement in Minneapolis.

This conversation is being organized by the Minneapolis Community
Engagement Project, an initiative to "jump-start" a policy
discussion by the council about the commitment to engaging residents
in Minneapolis.

We've already noticed a bit of chatter on the initiative. We are
interested in promoting an in-depth and open discussion on community
engagement in Minneapolis along side all of our usual topics of
conversation.

Every other day a member of the project's consulting team will post a
question to inspire comments and suggestions. All of their posts
will start MCEP in the subject line. It is our shared hope that many
of the conversation on the list will continue in the forums at
http://www.MplsCommunityEngagement.com

E-Democracy.Org is excited to be part of this initiative. We are
looking forward to a meaningful conversation about the issues
surrounding how we engage Minneapolis stakeholders.

P.S. If a mix of organizations have other issues that they would like
to turn into organized special events on the Minneapolis list, let us
know: http://www.e-democracy.org/comments.html
We are making this up as we go, but any effort to bring out dialogue
and deliberation from multiple perspectives on a local issue would
make a great candidate for an online special event in the forum.
