At 17, Rachel Sachs and her friends cannot vote, but they can volunteer, and 
they wanted to work for the best candidate they could find. They picked Tom 
Taylor, Green candidate for the state house district 59A in North 
Minneapolis and one of six Greens on the November ballot.

Important decision on development Thursday 

An Oct. 28 meeting of the Minneapolis Zoning Committee will send a signal 
about the city’s enforcement of height restrictions for buildings near the 
shoreline of city lakes and other protected waters. It will give people an 
idea of how strict or compromising or lenient the city will be in 
negotiating with real estate developers.

Sound bites and slogans fill the walls at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts 
for The Art of Democracy: Tools of Persuasion exhibit. The only criterion to 
local participants was to create politically flavored art—party affiliation 
didn't matter. The result is a mish-mash of thoughtful art, political 
cartoons, campaign signs and stickers, collages and unusual concept pieces.
