No matter how long you time a amber light, there are going to be people who
cross on red.  The problem with making a yellow light longer from two cars
to four cars...if you are the first car when the light turns amber...you are
going to get mowed down not by one but two or three cars behind  wanting to
make that crossing. I read the article and feel the point is valid but would
it carry over into all municipalities? I don't think so.   So the problem is
"catch more people and generate more fines rather than reduce accidents."
Fact... people are running red lights...   If they don't want to be caught..
a functional concept would be........don't run a red light.
