At the state level, BRT work is being organized by Frank Hornstein in the MN
House. He got legislation passed last year to "study" the issue and will be
working on securing bonding money for both capital and operating costs for
BRT on 35W in the next session.
That will be the real test to see if BRT can become a reality. With no
money, BRT is just an unfunded concept. It needs to be funded and then it's
a serious commitment.
Mayor Rybak and city council members at council meeting tomorrow (I think)
regarding Crosstown should require that final approval of Crosstown be
postponed until the end of the legislative session and/or until a state
level funding commitment is made for BRT.
According to Frank, there will be a public meeting at MLK Park on the BRT
study sometime the week of September 27th. Stay tuned for a final notice of
this public meeting.
