Mike Thompson could only find four symbols:

A building representing education and the arts. 
A cogged wheel representing labor and industry. 
A pilot wheel representing lakes and rivers. 
A microscope representing research, skilled craftmanship and progress. 

Brandt:  There ought to be one more visible symbol.  Hint:  Look near the cog and think of the L in DFL.
