This continued move to rely on the sports industry and sports moguls to
provide economic vitality to the City of Mpls is a house of cards.
And for Downtown Merchants and others to think they can revitalize DT Mpls by
using such measures is not logical.
DT Mpls has horrible and expensive parking.
There is no decent mass transit to entice people who have cars, are in the
suburbs or outlying areas of Mpls to come Downtown in the numbers they
unrealistically want.
There needs to be a realistic approach to assess and accept how much business
can be supported by the folks who currently come downtown to shop, spend
time, etc.
Many people live downtown who do all of the above.
I believe this is called living within one's means. Sports stadium interests
have been allowed
to gain a strangle hold on cities with the result that they drain the wealth
of cities.
They also produce huge, ugly structures, much more pavement and traffic and
congestion and pockets of car exhaust.
Next thing you know, somebody with megawealth will think it would be a great
idea to create a sport and resulting stadium that centers around contestants
who are camels versus the superwealthy.
They could have different size needles and the above contestants will
complete to see who can get through the smallest needle eye.
I would pay to see that.
