As it is for some of you, online registration is a frustration for me
too. That's mostly because I tend to forget my passwords. But I get
online mailings from the Star Tribune only about once every other week,
and my delete key still works. Many online registrations have a feature
that allow a user to refuse online junk mailings. I wonder if Mike
Hohmann may have neglected to check that during registration.
For those looking for a reason to get mad at the Star Tribune, there
are better reasons. One is the evaporation of Minneapolis coverage,
aside from City Hall, schools and crime. During one two-week period
last spring when I measured, the ratio of Minneapolis crime news to
enterprise news (coverage other than City Hall schools and crime) was
about 15:1. For St. Paul coverage, the crime-to-enterprise ratio was a
much more reasonable about 3:2. That ratio distorts the metropolitan
area's image of Minneapolis, and it's unacceptable to me. But I don't
run the place, and my internal lobbying falls on deaf ears. So it's up
to you to make the noise, if there's anyone left out there who cares.
