[Mpls] City sales tax

The rich would love to have us have only regressive taxes like the sales
tax. They would pay almost nothing. Money for public goods (eg schools,
public health) would decline; ordinary people be less educated, less
healthy, etc, in general weaker. Less able to defend themselves as the
rich move to take further advantage of us, the sort of advantage the
wealthy had over the poor in Dicken's England. Pawlenty understands this
very well, and is working night and day to help the rich feed off the
poor.
As for remedy - how about secession? Set up as an independent city-state,
with income and corporate taxes. We'd do better than be robbed and
disabled by the rich, as we are today.

ordinary
people -
who are their natural foes - would be hindered by poorly funded education
atc, and thus less able to challenge the rich as they take the next step
toward feudalism.
