Stonewall and Log Cabin Republicans both do the booth with volunteers. The
Secretary of State's office is a more official booth - and probably should
have paid staff - who represent the office. If her office did have people
at 2004 Pride, she deserves some credit for doing that. It would be
inappropriate for her office to try to coordinate her booth with the Log
Cabin Republicans and Minneapolis Republican City Committee booth - because
of the non-partisan nature of her office. That would be the way for her
office to get volunteers.
She was a guest at one of our Log Cabin Republicans meetings in 2002. We
talked to her - but did not screen her for endorsement at that
meeting. Kiffmeyer has also come to some E Democracy gatherings. I hope
she does come to Pride in 2006 - and that if she does come to Pride, that
people talk to her, rather than react with kneejerk hostility (and that
happens at Pride to Republicans who come).
There are a number of legitimate campaign issues to use against Kiffmeyer
(the City Pages article that showed collusion between the SOS office and
David Strom on filing the complaint about City Pages voter registration
booth did not reflect well on Kiffmeyer's office).
I don't see this issue in the same way.
