The fact that you Don't live in the 5th Ward explains your initial
response.

Obviously I must be missing something here because your response makes no sense. You made a factually inaccurate statement in your initial post (" I am simply unable to understand what would make an incumbent abandon his seat...") that Mr. Robson corrected. Perhaps you did not want to be corrected on this point. None the less, you were wrong in saying he is "abandoning his seat". Council Member Samuels lives in the same house in Jordan that he did when he was first elected. He wants to continue to represent his neighborhood along with a bunch of new constituents. This happens all the time in the legislature and even with the council in the past. Misrepresenting the situation this way can only be intended to confuse the less politically savvy residents of the ward.

The redistricting commission had long completed their work when the special election was called. At the time, I even sent several emails to this and other lists asking if CM Samuels was planning on moving when the next general election came around. And let's be absolutely clear about this, Don Samuels never said that he planned on moving into the newly drawn Third Ward when it was time to run for re-election! Never. I don't know where the Johnson Lee partisans out there got that impression, but I know for a fact that he never even hinted that he planned on leaving the Jordan neighborhood. And yet, Natalie Johnson Lee still supported him in the special election. It's time to get over it and move on to the issues that affect your ward.
