The Eighth Ward convention will have all the candidates speaking. I was
not impressed by any of the candidates, but for many it was their first
time out, so I cut them some slack for the moment.
The most unfortunate part was the young woman wanting all the white
males to step aside. I was so stunned, I kept looking around to find out
who was speaking. That same silly ploy has been tried by some of my
younger roommates on the only white male in the house. It's called being
20 or so and full of righteousness--wrongly placed.
There were a ton of younger people, which was great (even if one
embarrassed herself)!
I've been voting in 8-4 for 20 years or so, but suddenly I'm in 8-2, the
lines are in different places, so some folks I would normally see
weren't there. I was also surprised to see Karen Forbes and Mike Nelson,
who have never been in my precinct before.
I was honked off at one of Dennis Tifft's supporters who, never having
laid eyes on me before, felt it was OK to call me "dear." How fifties
retro, and not a good sign. I didn't call him on it, nor hit him with my
cain (which I didn't have with me). Nor did I call after him with
something unkind like, "TWERP!" Hadn't seen the Tilsen's in forever, so
that was really nice.
