AFSCME Backs Lilligren in Ward 6

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Minnesota Council 5, the union which represents about 800 City of Minneapolis employees, has announced endorsement of Robert Lilligren in the 6th Ward Minneapolis City Council race

Both declared 6th Ward candidates sought the endorsement. "We compared both candidates side by side and chose to endorse the one we felt will best represent the neighborhoods, the ward and the people of Minneapolis." says AFSCME Political Director and former 6th Ward Council Member Jim Niland, "Robert Lilligren has an excellent track record of listening and responding to City workers who plow the streets, pick up the garbage, and do the other work of the city."

AFSCME has the largest membershpi of any City of Minneapolis employees' union. "I am honored that the board and membership of AFSCME put their faith in me as a candidate and a Council Member," says Lilligren, "I look forward to working together on an aggressive, high road campaign."

Lilligren is a grassroots people's politician. He is a 25 year resident of the new 6th Ward and a member of the White Earth of Ojibwe. He is running on a platform of Strong Neighborhoods, Safe Communities and Continued Investment in the Core City. "We need to work together as One Community, made up of many beautifully diverse parts," says Lilligren.
