...the Millers split a doubleheader, remaining in second place just ahead of St. Paul.
...debate raged over whether city schools should conduct civil-defense drills.
...Elmer L. Andersen, George Dayton and a banker identified as Carl Pohland were seated on the bus company's board.
...a Star Tribune photographer won a Pulitzer prize.
...Sid's column didn't shill for a new stadium.
...And some 250 miles to the south, a newborn was delivered to parents in Des Moines and immediately astonished them in his attempt to moderate the recovery room discussion.
Yep, it's David's birthday. Let's hope that someday he can boast about being alive longer than Sid has written his column!
