The Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder recently sat down with the two remaining
candidates for Minneapolis’ Eighth Ward city council seat, civil rights
lawyer Elizabeth Glidden (EG) and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
Commissioner Marie Hauser (MH), and asked them to elaborate on their
qualifications and what they view as the ward’s major issues.

Jeff Hayden, the leading African American contender for the position, was
knocked out of the running in the September 13 primary. In the citywide
general election on Tuesday, November 8, Ward Eight voters, over half of
whom are people of color, must decide which candidate, Glidden or Hauser,
will best serve their interests. The MSR offers these interviews as an aid
to these voters of color, as well as to White voters concerned about who can
best represent one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city.
