I believe the smoking ban issue was a non-factor in the recent city
elections. Although there were rumors that if so and so candidates were elected, the
Minneapolis smoking ban would be revisited, I saw very little on-the-record
candidate comments. Regarding the Hennepin County ban, St. Paul City Council
Member Thune claims he will have a Mineapolis-style smoking ban for St. Paul
on Mayor Coleman's desk when Coleman takes office and Thune says he is urging
Hennepin County not to roll back. Here is the link:

Since the Hennepin County and St. Paul actions affect the
Minneapolis-Richfield, Minneapolis-St. Louis Park and Minneapolis-St. Paul borders, I agree
with Dave Strand it is well worth following what these jurisdictions are trying
to do.
