I think I was a sophomore in high school, 1992, when I gave my first
dollar to panhandler, a street musician a.k.a "busker" no less, on
Nicollet Ave. in downtown. I also remember waiting for the bus with an
older co-worker many years back ('95-'96) and he was approached by a
clearly desperate panhandler asking for spare change. My co-worker
replied "how 'bout a buck?" I'll never forget the overall
gratitude/empathy of life displayed by both of them after their brief
transaction. I often keep spare dollars in my front pockets for the
occasion, and use that very line that gives more than what's expected.
Highly recommended.
