Just to remind everyone:  Log Cabin Republicans of Minnesota endorsed Don 
Bellfield for City Council in the 8th Ward.  From the report on Don's 
meeting with Log Cabin Republicans by LCR/MN PAC Chair Mark Hanson:

"Donald holds a bachelor's degree in Urban Studies from Mankato State 
University, and has earned a public policy certificate from the Humphrey 
Institute. A 30 year employee of the Metropolitan Council, he currently 
focuses on transit issues and has a broad range of experience in budgeting, 
research and planning.

An outgoing, enthusiastic fellow, Donald is the type of candidate we want 
to encourage. Describing himself as an 'Arne Carlson Republican', his 
priorities are fiscal responsibility, public safety and economic 
development. He is fully supportive of the current city policies on GLBT 
issues related to hiring, domestic partnerships, employee benefits, etc. "

Gente de Minnesota endorsements

I have to really write on this one, as I knew, I tell you knew, the 
endorsement was going to turn out exactly the way it did, and I am going to 
explain why:

Through out this election process I have listened to people say why are 
there not more immigrants, or people of color in office, or the police need 
to do more minority hiring. Well this is Gente de Minnesota's first 
question that made me fill out there survey, and put it to the test:

Currently there only two African American Minneapolis Council members, 
running against each other. We have one Native person in the city council. 
We have no Hispanic, Asian or Somali members in the city council, State 
House, State Senate, Hennepin County board representing Minneapolis. What 
should be done in order to add more ethnic and racial diversity in 
Minneapolis political offices, and what would you do in order to ensure 
that there is more diversity in the city's decision making

Now in the end they do state racial diversity so that kind of makes them 
safe with Jeff Hayden, but hello I am half Latino, and they stated I did 
not have enough political experience to even give me nod. Elizabeth Glidden 
I guess is more qualified then a Latina. Maybe they should have been at our 
debate on Tuesday, to see the candidates, rather than rush a quick survey 
they wanted filled out. My point is like I told them, any one can run for 
office, as it is open for all, but now I know that one should not complain 
anymore about why there is not more of one's culture or race, when they do 
not support it anyways. I have never, and will never want anything due to 
my heritage. I want things, and work towards things because I am qualified.

The other thing I have to laugh at is when Jeff started door knocking he 
had made a comment that he did not realize their where so many Latino's in 
the area!!!!!! But lets see Gente de Minnesota said "We were impressed by 
his answers to our questions, and his knowledge about the Latino 
community". Then nothing like being somebody's kiss asse to be endorsed 
because another city council member endorsed him that does so much for 
them. This type of activity is scary, and makes me question what is going 
on, because this is power trying to be built in city hall, come on, I am 
not as dumb as you think I am. Look what is happening now. Then to endorse 
Elizabeth, shoot one of the questions they asked was we have a lot of crime 
and gang activite going on, in the neigborhoods, and with businesses, well 
Elizabeth, and Jeff have probably never gotten out of there car in a bad 
neighborhood after dark let alone ever deal with crime issues other then 
sitting in at meetings, listening, and doing nothing, and I know this from 
experience sitting with them at a 38th street task force meeting. Neither 
one could bring antyhing to the table, like I did, and this was a perfect 
oppurtunity being as they are so involved, and do so much. What has 
Elizabeth done with her civil rights business. How many cases has she won 
if any, and how many businesses has she helped start? Oh maybe she counts 
her own!!!!!!

Then there is Marie Hauser, what did they say about her "She is the 
candidate in the ward with the most labor endorsements, and according to 
analysts, is one of the candidates with the most chances of winning the 
primary. We hope that we just had some form of miscommunication with her 
and that she didn't choose to ignore our community." I hope your analysts 
are wrong, I think Marie's visions are of bike trails, and outdoor cafes, 
and not many immigrant businesses. This is a women who said she is for 35W 
access project awhile back, and Tuesday was wishy washing around about it, 
saying she would look at it carefuly. Well that is going to effect a lot of 
lower income people losing homes and some businesses. I have a feeling that 
when Marie makes her mind up and she wants something her way, you can talk 
until your blue in the face, but despite her saying she has an open mind 
and will listen, that is untrue. There is proof of that in a letter sent 
out by her to only certain people in regards to her stand on the football 
field at DeLaSalle.

Well gotta go, have to start door knocking.

Anyway, I hope and pray that the Latino community and all vote wisely, as 
it will effect our future. I do have a passion for community, for without 
it we have nothing. So for all you voters please keep that in mind. Vote 
for the people person, not the government. Remember me Terry, September 13th.

Marie Hauser had a total meltdown over the Park Board Reform lit 
piece.  She was insistant that the piece was a dirty trick by one of her 
opponents (it wasn't - the piece wasn't all about Marie).  She also said 
that the statements on the piece were lies.  As far as I understand it they 
were accurate statements.

Marie's position on the 35W Excess project was quite cagey - she claimed to 
be behind what the neighborhood had decided.  Other candidates all opposed 
the Excess project.
