Justin Eibenholzl Writes:

Our City is so safe apparently we can spare some 21 police officers (and 10
squads) to arrive three weeks after the fact down in New Orleans to help the
approximate 30,000 guard troops, Army, and other enforcement officials many
of whom have fully automatic weapons/military vehicles. Yeah, I'm feeling
safer already. So lets see, If police is a function Rybak lit then that
means 71-21=50 or is the 71 an imaginary number? Math is hard.

If you like the status quo and feel well represented then there's no need to
vote for change, but if you feel otherwise maybe it's time to go fill in a
few new circles at your local polling place.

Dennis Plante Responds:
In this particular case I would gladly give-up 21 of our officers for an
indefinite amount of time to help-out in this situation. When I was a
youngster growing-up in farm country, I assisted on several occaissions in
"barn-raisings" where a neighboring farmer's barn had been struck by
lightening, or incurred some other misfortune. Nobody got paid, or needed
to be asked to help-out. We just did-it because it "felt right". This
feels right.

Besides which, the army presence in N.O. serves a much different function
then does the police.
