[Winona] unreal

The reason that a lot of positive changes and structures have occurred in
this town is because a few citizens have stepped forward with a vision and
committment to bring beauty for Winona. Take for instance our local
veterans park, Winona State, even the controversial Wilke. I don't have
strong feelings either way towards GRSF. I have no problem supporting it to
a point, I agree with you that it does need to be self sustaining in the
near future with perhaps a small portion of funding coming from the city
taxes, which I believe it will. My main point that I had is that I didn't
appreciate you perpetuating a myth that the "east end" is a poorer
neighborhood and that it is all right for public taxes to pay for things
that benefit the community. People gripe a lot about what they have to pay
in taxes but they just as quickly take for granted the quality of life that
comes with it. Your dollars that are kept within the community are much
more beneficial to you than what you receive from the federal government or
even the state.
I think that people have less of a problem with you disagreeing with the
benefit of GRSF than they do with some of the disparaging remarks you make.
But even so, yours tend to be less insulting than other posters that I have
read. It would be nice if this forum continued to be a place where good
discussion can occur on a subject without resorting to gossip and knee jerk
judgements. Thankfully, those postings are infrequent.

Susan,
I as well have an East end home and am an alumnus of W-K. My point was, and
remains, that basic necessities of the city( Gabrych park for example) are
being disregarded while lots of tax dollars are flowing into a financially
losing project( which could be self sustaining...it isn't now nor is it
pointed towards it). If you think it is better that the GRSF continues to
get all the funding it needs while private citizens have to repave their
local parks on their own...so be it. I disagree but, I am now seeing that I
am tampering with a sacred cow when I dare question the finances of the GRSF
Everyone who defends this project has no answers for me regarding the
legitimacy of their expenses. Nobody has been able to give me one breakdown
of the exorbitant cost of the theater "study". Have I attacked the GRSF ?
absolutely, just as any other entity eating out of the public trough does.
Have I recieved any answers from supporters giving me facts and information
to support the legitimacy of the GRSF? a few..most responses(not all on wod,
some persoanal emails "not for wod" ) tell me I am wrong and that I should
go find out why I am wrong...perplexing logic for defending a point in my
opinion but...what can I do.
As I said earlier, I am now going to leave your sacred cow alone.
Enjoy your GRSF
